I am Amanda Smith and will be your child’s teacher for the upcoming 2016-2017 school year. I'm the mother of two adorable boys and a rescued Labrador Retriever. I have been married to my husband, Mark for 19 years. A rare Huntsville native, I graduated from Athens State with a degree in Elementary Education and an endorsement in Early Childhood Education. I taught in the Madison County school system for several years following college but decided to take some time off from the classroom after the birth of my first son. While acting as a stay-at-home mother, I worked part-time at a local tutoring company. This experience has given me strong insight on how to help academically struggling students become more successful. Last year I was very happy to return to the classroom. I missed having the opportunity to guide a group of students as they grow and mature over the course of a school year.
You may remember that last year I taught third grade Language Arts. This was a great fit for me, since I have a great love for reading. This year, I am excited to be making a move from third grade to first. What better place to begin to foster the love of reading in a child, but at the grade level at which they learn to read! I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect position!
I'm looking forward to getting to know each of you. Be assured, my goal is to help your child excel. I hope to plan lots of learning adventures. I want all of you to be excited about coming along with me!
