My name is Jane Scott and I am so delighted to be a part of your child’s reading life. This year
our reading focus in the library is Readers Are Explorers, Exploring Our World in Ships of Our
Own Making. My goal is to encourage beginning readers and challenge good readers to
become even better readers. Reading has been a lifelong passion and my favorite thing to
hear a child say is, “I love this book!”
I look forward to serving your child and your family throughout the school year. I’ll be more
than happy to help you and your child select books that are appropriate for their age and
interest as well as within in their AR reading range. Our library is divided by genre and books
are shelved by AR level to increase student independence as they search for library books.
Our Read Through the Genres Challenge for grades 2-5 is explained in the attached digital
flyer. Click the link to learn more: https://www.smore.com/mcws2-readers-are-explorers
This is my 8th year as Legacy’s Library Media Specialist and I’ve loved every minute of it.
After graduating with a BA in English from Samford University in 1984, I worked as an
Editorial Assistant at Woman’s Missionary Union in Birmingham. My husband and I married
in 1986 and we began our 30 year adventure together. With Bruce’s military assignments
and his civilian flight jobs, we’ve lived in the Republic of Panama, from South Alabama to
North Alabama and in between, and in Louisiana, as well as just outside of Washington D.C.
prior to moving to the Huntsville area in 2007. Along the way, I earned my Masters in
Special Education and taught for 12 years in that field before earning my Library Media
certification in 2007. Together we’ve raised three beautiful children and fostered a teenage
daughter for five years. Our two oldest are now on their own. And our youngest is in college.
I enjoy walking our two small dogs, hiking, and traveling with my husband. I love spending
time with our kids whenever we get the chance. I’m especially being a grandmother!
